Keywords

Keywords are the heart of AdSense and you have to be very careful about choosing the right keywords or all your work building your website and getting traffic will be for nothing.

Once you have your basic keywords you should begin to form a pyramid of keywords. This will include related keywords.

You should research these related keywords as you did the original keywords. You want to try to develop a nice list of keywords all related to your niche topic.

You are doing this so that you have content ideas for the future. You will need to be able to create content on a variety of keywords, but you want all the keywords you target to be good keywords that are related to your niche topic.

For each keyword you will need to track the popularity in searches and the going rate at AdSense. This will become your main tool to use when you are managing your website later on.

You should start with understanding that finding the most popular keywords is not always the best bet. To begin with Google uses  their AdSense program themselves. There is really no reason why Google would put their best paying ads on your site when they can put them on their own site and make 100% profit from them.

This is not saying that Google will give you bad ads. Google still makes money off of the ads placed on your site, but it is not the 100% profit they get from their own use of the ads.

As you can see the really big paying keywords are probably going to stay with Google as long as the keywords are popular search terms.

Where does this leave you? You have to use other factors to figure out the keywords you should target.

You can use popularity but also consider the competition for a keyword, how many advertisers are interested or bidding on the keyword in AdSense and the amount of clicks per day for that keyword.

What you will essentially look for is a list of the keywords that are earning the most everyday, not the ones that cost the most.

You are ultimately interested in earning money. If a keyword costs the most, but is not a keyword that is getting clicks then it will make you nothing. It is better to settle for a lower costing keyword that is going to earn you the most.

The bottom-line – Choose keywords based upon clicks per dayand cost per day and not based upon the cost per click.
